Brussels, Thursday 21 June 2012: The e-Skills Manifesto – with special introductions by Antonio Tajani, Vice-President of the European Commission, responsible for Industry and Entrepreneurship, and Don Tapscott, author of the widely acclaimed book, Wikinomics – was launched today in Brussels at an event involving senior representatives from the ICT sector and the European Commission.

The e-Skills Manifesto deep dives into policy development opportunities and the role that all stakeholders across the European Union must play in the development of a cohesive action plan to develop and promote e-skilled labour in Europe. It is a result of the second e-Skills Week campaign which took place earlier this year.

Following the launch of the European Commission’s Communication “Towards a job-rich recovery,” the e-Skills Manifesto presents a diverse range of views on the most sensible approach to addressing the ICT skills deficit head-on. This is the second edition of the e-Skills Manifesto, building on the success of the first Manifesto published in 2010 and coordinated by DIGITALEUROPE and European Schoolnet. Demonstrating the continuing collaborative actions of key stakeholders from education and industry, the e-Skills Manifesto presents effective mechanisms for addressing the imbalance between ICT skills supply and demand.
